The popularity of the English Premier League
It is hard not to see the reasons the English Premier Football league is so popular not only in the UK but around the world. The English teams have enjoyed over a decade of being hailed as the best domestic league in all of Europe, if not the entire world. The English Premier League has in fact outstripped many of the local clubs in various Asian countries. This immense foreign interest in what the Englishmen do on the pitch has grown to the point that even the game times of Manchester United correspond more to Asian convenience moreso than local British times.
Fans like excitement and they like to see their teams win. With some of the best players in the world competing on English teams, the popularity of the game increases as they continue to demonstrate some of the best football being played worldwide.
The popularity of the English Premiere League in Asia is such that games being played by Manchester United or Arsenal often preempt games being played at the same time by the Asian national teams. The reasoning given by sports fans is that why should they watch a K-League game when the Englishmen will be putting on a much better game.
With all the talent available to the English in the Premiere League, it is no wonder that it has become a financially lucrative prospect for the television broadcasters. With the current broadcast budget only just below two billion pounds, there is plenty of football excitement to be viewed.
Player Profile: Fernando Torres
Although he is one of the strongest players currently in the Liverpool club’s lineup, Fernando Torres is still a Spanish national and as such, is a member of the Spanish national team playing in the 2010 World Cup playoffs this year in South Africa.
Fernando started his football career in the youth ranks at Atletico, Madrid. He made his first professional appearance with the club in 2001. Within 174 games, Torres scored 75 goals for La Liga before moving on to the Segunda Division. In 40 games there Fernando Torres managed to score only seven times.
2007 saw the beginning of Torres career for Liverpool. He quickly became, in his first year there, the youngest player in over ten years to make more than twenty league goals in a single season of play. Gearing up for improvement, Torres then went on to become the fastest player in the Liverpool club to score 50 league goals.
As part of the Spanish national team, Fernando Torres has chalked up more honors and accolades. He has played three major tournaments, the 2004 and 2008 UEFA Euro Tournaments and the 2006 FIFA World Cup, where he logged three goals.
Yet another feather in Torres cap came during the 2010 World Cup qualifier where Spain rose victorious over the team from Turkey. It was Torres 60th appearance with the nationals team, the youngest man ever to reach the 60 game point. As striker for the Spanish national team in 2010, the World Cup finals is looking good for Spain and Torres.
Betting on the World Cup 2010
The 2010 World Cup playoffs being held in Johannesburg, South Africa this fall will be fielding thirty-one teams. Despite Europe being the most well represented continent in the playoffs with thirteen countries competing, only two are making the odds of being in the Final Four. South America is giving a very strong showing with Brazil and Argentina both being expected to make the Final Four along with Spain and England.
With the qualifying rounds completed for the 2010 World Cup and the draw for its final stages done, betting on the World Cup has begun in earnest. Professional and amateur punters alike are reveling in the wide variety of betting situations being offered on the World Cup competition. The odds are being set and the bookmakers have begun listing their odds on the games. At the moment, Spain is still receiving the by for first place at 7/2 odds although in the short odds, England is breathing closely down their necks.
While it is good to get a wager in early, there is much to be said for playing a waiting game for a while yet. There are still games to be played before the World Cup and there is always to chance that an injury to a team’s key player or players could upset the existing odds in a heartbeat. Keep up with the daily reports and know where the strengths ands weaknesses lie within each team. By the time the playoffs have begun it should be clear where the winnings will be.
Player Profile: Wayne Rooney
A lot of the hopes of England for a win at the 2010 World Cup finals are riding on the able shoulders of Wayne Rooney. Despite an English national team with many star quality athletes, why is it this one name continually crops up?
Wayne Mark Rooney is a young man still climbing towards the pinnacle of his career. Beginning with Everton’s youth team, Rooney joined at ten and quickly began his climb up the ranks of players. A mere six years later Wayne made his professional debut. At sixteen, the first goal he scored instantly gave him the record as the youngest man ever to score in the Premier League. He became a valued part of the Everton team for the next two years until he moved to Manchester United.
At Manchester United, Wayne Rooney quickly proved he was worth the over twenty-five million pounds MU paid for the pleasure of his performance. He has since chalked up three wins in the Premiere League, has taken two League Cups, and the 2007-2008 UEFA Champions League win. Wayne has twice been named the England Player of the Year in both 2008 and 2009. He holds the 2008 FIFA Cup World Cup Golden Ball.
Wayne Rooney is expected to take the Golden Boot award easily at the 2010 World Cup this year. He is strong, decisive, and versatile. With this fire leading the way, it is easy to see why the consensus is that Rooney will make the English team come off the World Cup pitch victorious.
Can England win the World Cup in South Africa?
As the world gears up for the World Cup finals in South Africa this year, the buzz among punters and sports analysts alike is whether England’s national team can go all the way to the win over such formidable rivals as Brazil, Argentina, or Spain. With Fabio Capello coaching the national team, all eyes are turning to the spectacularly strong striker, Wayne Rooney to be the linchpin that holds the English team together for the win.
It is a good potential scenario as Wayne Rooney is considered to be one of the best football players currently active in the entire world. Since his entrance into international football at only 17, Rooney has continued to show versatility in the positions he lays and a drive to succeed that has also placed him among the highest scorers in the game.
England’s greatest challenge could well be against Argentina as they too have one of the world’s best players in the person of Lionel Messi. There is a speed advantage for the swift Messi. Rooney is not as fast but more powerful. It would be a shame if either team were to be knocked out of the final game of the World Cup. With two such powerful teams and their matching superstar players, it would have to be one of the great moments in recent football history. Still, with the strong backing of the rest of the English national team behind Wayne Rooney, it is easy to see why the world is beginning to lean towards England all the way in 2010.
Football Accumulators – Win big money for a small bet
Football Accumulators – Win big money for a small bet
If you don’t mind playing the long odds for that small chance of raking in a veritable fortune on a low cost wager, you may want to investigate the football accumulators. The concept is rather simple. You do not predict and wager on a single team to win. Instead you will pick either three, four, or for real long odds, five teams to all win their matches. If even one team in the series loses their match, then the bet is lost completely.
Many professional punters feel that the football accumulator wager was a sweet scam invented by the bookmakers for the primary purpose of raking in money from the gullible or greedy. And to a great degree it works. It is very hard to determine the correct outcome for so many games even if you know the odds against you. But then, there is that rare and wonderful time when a football accumulator bet pays off and it usually pays off big.
Despite the odds being stacked heavily against you, there are a few methods of playing the football accumulators for more than just entertainment value. Don’t get greedy. Do not add teams to your accumulator just for a small extra potential gain. Pick your teams on the merits of the players and their usual performance. Finally, as much as you love your own favorite team, it is best to not include their matches in your football accumulator bet. Face it, you like the guys so you are not as likely to view their potential objectively.
So if you don’t mind losing often, play the football accumulators for fun and then when you do hit that big one where you win big money from a small bet, it will feel all the sweeter.
